The Partnership for a Better Energy Future (PBEF) issued a statement by spokesman Chad Kolton responding to the Supreme Court ruling yesterday setting important limits on the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulatory authority:

“The Supreme Court’s ruling is a welcomed check on the Obama Administration’s recent efforts to regulate well beyond the scope of the law.

“This ruling sends a strong message to the Administration as it considers its next set of greenhouse gas regulations for new and existing power plants.  If regulators try to stretch their powers beyond the law, the courts will be there to keep them in line.

“Rather than forcing the hand of the courts, the EPA should initiate additional discussion with stakeholders to ensure their new and existing power plant rules fall within the scope of the law.  Partnership members continue to stand ready to work with EPA to ensure that its regulations do not restrict the availability of affordable, reliable energy that is vital to American families and businesses.”
